10 Most Frequently Asked Questions

One of the features in the LPC Board newsletter is the “10 Most Frequently Asked Questions.” These are the questions that are asked on a regular basis by inquisitive parties interested in some facet of the law and rules governing the practice of counseling in the state of Louisiana. These questions can be used to inform and play an important part in increasing your knowledge base. However, the questions themselves seem to suggest that there is a communication gap between the person applying either for supervision or licensure and their supervisor. While the questions remain valid, a closer look should be given to who should have the immediate answers to the questions.

The first course of action would be to consult with your supervisor. If you are still looking for a supervisor, be sure that they can answer your questions to your satisfaction before entering into a supervision agreement with them. Your supervisor should be fluent not only with the 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions, but also with every other facet of the law and rules. You may even want to ask the supervisor these questions even if you know the answers. This will at least give you an idea their knowledge base. As such these questions could serve as a part of your interview with your prospective supervisor.

The current question on the website is “Why doesn’t the board have a process for pre-preview of applications?” When you look at the process of applying for either supervision or licensure, it is a joint endeavor between the supervisor and the Counselor Intern (CI). Incomplete or incorrect applications can be considered a part of the communications gap between the supervisor and the Counselor Intern. The supervisor is an integral part of the process and should be capable of providing the applicant with everything needed in order to submit their applications.

We will continue to answer questions and do our best to give inquirers the benefit of the doubt. Just because someone asks about something that may be obvious to anyone, that does not make the question or the person asking stupid. Everyone has right to knowledge and everyone is free to ask his/her query without any hesitation. If you thought this was an article to answer those 10 perplexing questions, think again.

With a little perseverance, you may find the answers to those questions and everything else you would like to know about the regulation of counseling in Louisiana from the law and rules posted on the website.

Hopefully this article will not deter you from asking questions regarding any process concerning the regulation of the counseling profession in the state of Louisiana.
